The colours of autumn in Japan are spectacular to say the least. In my opinion, having lived in Japan for 8 years, autumn is probably the most beautiful time to visit the land of the Cherry Blossom. Yes! The Cherry blossoms of spring are simply spectacular. However, the forests in autumn simply light up in shades of the colour spectrum in reverse gear, starting with green and progressing through yellow, orange, ochre, red, purple and everything in between as the deciduous trees prepare to shed their leaves. About the only colour missing from the spectrum is shades of blue, and because autumn is mostly dry, you get the bluest skies as your back-drop.

Tour itinerary: Japanese companies include the flights in their itinerary as being a day of the tour. Hence, we are following that tradition, because the International flights are included in the pricing. Please be aware if comparing, most Australian travel companies do not include international flights in their pricing schedule, and they are an additional cost to you.

All western style accommodation is minimum 4 star. Usually Higher. Traditional Japanese accommodation is of the highest standard, and should you attempt to book the rooms yourself, may cost in the region of AUD $300 to $500 per night for the first person and $200 to $400 for the second person win share, but is not rated by the western starring system, so we cannot declare a star rating.

Souvenirs can be purchased at every location. Feel free to be a shutter bug and/or just take in the sights. When the term Prefecture is used, Prefecture is similar to a shire.

Day 2, Nov 11, xxxx: Arrive Fukuoka International Airport 08:35, Bus Departs 09:30 to Yanagawa City, Yame City, Kumamoto Prefecture, Yamaga City

Day 3, Yamaga, Arao, Tamana and Kumamoto Cities

  • 3 meals, Breakfast, lunch and dinner included
  • Kumamoto Prefecture, Breakfast at the hotel in Yamaga City
  • Visit Matsunaga Katana (Japanese Sword) Training Institute & watch the Katana being made and demonstrated.
  • Visit Renge-in Tanjō-ji Buddhist Temple and See the world’s Largest Temple Bell.
  • Lunch at Tamana City – Local beef dishes
  • Visit Kumamoto Castle & Garden park, one of Japan’s few remaining Castles surrounded in Autumn foliage and ideal for photographs.

Day 4: Kumamoto sight-seeing → to Miyazaki · Takachiho

  • Visit Heitate JinJa (Heitate Temple Shrine)
  • Lunch – Takachiho style beef

  • Free Day. Grab a few brochures and head for Hakata train station or just walk out the hotel door and let the breeze take you. Make sure you see everything you want to see, and buy everything you haven’t bought, but want to take home today.

Day 9: International Flights back home.
